From Aachen to Zittau and from Stade to Weilheim, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is represented by institutes and facilities at more than 30 locations across Germany. One of the latest waves of establishments took place in several steps starting in 2017 with a total of 15 new institutes. Thematically, they complement the existing institutes and, in cooperation with them, are dedicated to the future topics of relevance to society – from green energy and new forms of mobility to artificial intelligence and quantum computing, to name a few.

We at the Institute of Networked Energy Systems (DLR-VE) are one of these new institutes and are pursuing an overarching goal: we want to make the energy transition in the economy and society successful through our research. We develop transformation strategies and technical solutions to link the electricity, heating, transport and industrial sectors efficiently. To this end, we work together with our partners from industry and research to develop a holistic understanding of the system and effective system solutions.

Our research teams consider all levels of the energy system in their work - from centralised large-scale infrastructures such as storage caverns to the electricity and gas grids and the technical equipment of buildings. We take into account technical, economic, political, ecological and social framework conditions and create valuable synergy effects through co-operation between our technical and systems analysis research groups.

As a result, we are able to address two key transfer levels: Technology transfer through our technical solutions and knowledge transfer with the results of our internally developed modelling and analysis tools.

Founded in 1988, the country butchery Setzer sees itself as a continuation of a traditional agricultural enterprise. The parents of the managing director, Volker Setzer, already ran a successful pig breeding farm. Here, master butcher Volker Setzer was able to enrich his knowledge and experience until his master's examination and independence. He learned to appreciate quality and regional products.

Master butcher Volker Setzer still places great value on quality and traditional craftsmanship in his own company today. Animals from the Hohenlohe region (Kocher, Jagst, and Bühlertal) are processed into first-class meat and sausage products. The Setzer country butcher is a QS-certified company and sources its pigs from farmers Martin Niebel from Goggenbach and Ulrich Kühnle from Wolpertshausen. The animals are raised and fed according to the guidelines of the "Quality Seal Baden-Württemberg" with exclusively non-genetically modified feed.
