Demonstrated by the latest developments surrounding ChatGPT and Dall-E, just before Christmas,Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a major factor in our digital economy, with its potential to revolutionize the way businesses operate and transform industries.
To ensure that the European Union (EU) has a unified, well-regulated approach to AI, the European Commission has proposed the European AI Act. The proposal has passed the first reading in the European Parliament and is currently under negotiations between the European Parliament, Commission and Council.
The new legislation seeks to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for the development, use, and enforcement of AI in the EU. It will provide a clearer legal basis for companies to develop, test, and deploy AI systems, while ensuring that the data used is secure and trustworthy. The AI Act will also help to promote innovation and growth in the EU, by providing a level playing field for AI companies and ensuring the use of AI is both ethical and responsible. With this new legislation, the EU is attempting to take a step towards becoming a world leader in AI legislation and establishing itself as a hub for AI innovation.
We are happy that Axel Voss will share his first hand experience and information with AIDAHO studentes and other interested members of the University on January 19, 2023 at 18h30 in the balcony room of the palace.
